What's this - another contest during our Summer of Honeycomb giveaway? Indeed it is. We write about SSDs quite frequently here at AnandTech so it's about time that we gave away some modern ones. Patriot was kind enough to send along two of its brand new 120GB Wildfire SSDs. The Wildfire is a SandForce SF-2281 SSD with 32nm Toshiba NAND, giving it a performance advantage over standard SF-2281 designs with 25nm IMFT Flash. You end up with a drive that performs more like a 240GB SF-2281 but has the capacity (and price) of a 120GB drive.
Of course if you are one of our two winners then you don't have to worry about price in the first place :)

Is it ageism or common sense to ban rowdy children?
A few months ago I wrote about a handful of restaurateurs that discouraged diners from bringing children into their establishments. And many of you commented, the majority (parents and non-parents alike) saying things along the lines of "all kids don't need to be banned—just the badly behaved whiny ones who use mashed potatoes as projectile devices and run around like the Tasmanian Devil on amphetamines." (I may be paraphrasing a bit here.)
But now Mike Vuick, owner of McDain's restaurant just outside of Pittsburgh has officially banned anyone under age 6 from coming through the doors, starting July 16. "I'm doing this on behalf of all the kind, refined people who have e-mailed me who have had meals ruined," Vuick told the Wall Street Journal. "I've decided someone in our society had to dig their heels in on this issue."
One regular customer emailed Vuick to suggest he ban kids after a certain hour or partition off a kids-only area, but said he wouldn't concede. "All children do not have meltdowns, and I don't feel I should have to suffer the repercussions," said the customer, Stephanie Kelley, who has a one-year old son.
Still, response to the ban seems to be favorable so far. Sixty four percent of 10,000 people polled by a Pittsburgh TV news station support Vuick's new policy, and business was up 20 percent on a recent night.
I have three nieces under the age of 3 and they are very well behaved at restaurants, casual and formal alike. But I also know that their parents are very conscious of scheduling their meals out at times where they aren't tired and cranky, as well as providing games and diversions for the times when the kids aren't so interested in their entrees. So while Vuick—and other restaurateurs that discourage kid diners—have already made that choice, it's equally important that parents are considerate of the restaurant atmosphere as well.
What do you think? Is Vuick justified in banning children at his restaurant?

With just days left until the longlist for the T3 Gadgets Awards 2011 comes to a close, your votes are needed to determine the finalists with less than ten votes separating which products will make the cut in a number of categories.
Following an incredible reaction from you the T3 reader that has seen more than 300,000 votes already cast, a final push is needed to help determine which products make the final shortlist for the 2011 T3 Gadget Awards with App of the Year and Digital Media Service of the Year two categories that are currently too close to call.
Due to be unveiled this Friday, July 22nd, the Gadget Awards shortlist halves the number of products up for the coveted T3 awards with the ten longlist candidates cut down to a final five finalists in each category.
Whilst there is currently four votes separating two products on the cusp of progressing to the shortlist for the Computer of the Year, Digital Media Service and App of the Year are even closer with a single vote separating the Digital Media prize whilst the fifth and sixth apps up for the App of the Year gong are currently tied on 1,066 votes apiece.
"We've seen an amazing response to the T3 Gadget Awards for 2011. Well over 350,000 user votes have been cast to help find the products, brands and personalities that have captured the imagination since October last year,” Editor of T3.com Kieran Alger announced.
“The public vote and the competition to grab a place in the final has been closer than ever. It's testament to the depth and breadth of innovation we've seen in the past 9 months that just a handful of votes separate those bidding to make the cut and those that look set to fall by the wayside. I can't wait to see the results when the finalists are announced on the 22nd July."
With just four days until the shortlist is announced, time is quickly running out for you to make a difference on the fate of your favourite tech whilst also giving yourself the chance to win a Samsung Smart TV or an Apple iPad 2 tablet. Head on over to the T3 Gadget Awards website now.

Apple’s epic refresh of its Mac range, due as part of its move to OS X Lion, appears to include a new LED Cinema Display. The classy monitor is now a dead cert for an update after an official image on the company’s site appeared to show one connected to a MacBook Pro.
How’s it different to the current model? Well, this new LED Cinema Display is connected to the top-end laptop using Thunderbolt. That tech is not available in the current version of the slick display.
What’s more, the official snap shows the display with the OS X Lion background, rather than Snow Leopard one. That’s now been tweaked, with the UK store showing the current model using the soon-to-be-defunct OS.
Stay tuned right here and to our Facebook and Twitter pages for all the details on Apple’s forthcoming updates.
